A Goniopora, often called a Flowerpot Coral, is a large-polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its long, flowing polyps that emerge from a stony base and resemble dancing flowers or daisies in the current. Each polyp has a long stem topped with a corolla of 24 tentacles (like a flower), giving it a very soft, fluffy appearance. They are famous for their beautiful, graceful movement but are also known for being one of the more challenging LPS corals to keep long-term, making them a project for more experienced aquarists. They require very stable, pristine water quality and often benefit from targeted feeding. Some varieties are hardier than others.
