What does WYSIWYG mean when buying corals?
Share
WYSIWYG stands for "what you see is what you get". When a coral listing is WYSIWYG, the photo shows the exact piece you will receive, not a typical example of that coral.
Why it matters
Corals vary a lot, even within the same named strain. Colour, size, shape and number of heads differ from piece to piece. A WYSIWYG listing removes the guesswork. You know the piece you are buying.
WYSIWYG vs a stock photo
- WYSIWYG: photo of the actual frag, one of a kind. Once sold, it is gone.
- Non-WYSIWYG: the photo shows a representative piece or the mother colony. Your frag will be similar, but not identical.
How to check
- Read the listing title and description. If it says WYSIWYG, the photo is the piece.
- Look at the photo for a scale reference, such as a ruler or a coin, and a plain background.
- Remember lighting. Photos taken under blue light make colours glow more than they will under many home lights. Each product page notes this.
Check before you buy
Where one of our listings is WYSIWYG, the title says so, for example "WYSIWYG Frankenstein Mushroom". If you are not sure, email us at beesandcorals@gmail.com and we will help. See our shipping policy for how corals travel.
